Mount Pleasant on Hotel Building Boom

Mount Pleasant stands to get a significant upgrade to its stock of hotel lodging over the next year. At least four hotel building projects are getting underway and two more have been given town approval. Here's what's on tap:

Wyndham Garden Inn
The storied but blighted Fort Moultrie Motel on Stuart Engals Blvd is being demolished to make way for a new Wyndham Garden Inn. Crews appeared this week to be removing certain items from the motel's rooms to make way for wrecking crews.

Hilton Garden Inn
Demolition is underway at the Masters Inn on Wingo Way. Developers will construct a 133-room Hilton Garden Inn on that property.

Towne Centre Hotel
The town has given approval for a new hotel to be constructed at Mount Pleasant Towne Centre. The yet-to-be-named hotel will front Hungryneck Blvd. and be next to a parking deck that's planned for the Belk department store expansion.

Holiday Inn Express
There are plans for a 3-story, 100-room Holiday Inn Express on Stockade Lane north of the Isle of Palms Connector.

Charleston Harbor Resort
The waterfront resort just completed its restaurant and is planning a new 90-room annex to its current offerings. That building will reportedly feature a rooftop bar and restaurant.

Bridgeside II
The 40-acre mixed-use development planned for the undeveloped piece of property just east of the Ravenel Bridge will contain two hotels. Developers have been given town approval for a full-service luxury hotel and a smaller limited service hotel.
