Easynest lets single travelers shack up with a stranger and save 50% on hotels

Easynest is based on the idea that most hotels charge a flat rate on rooms whether there are one or two guests. So thrifty solo travelers can, in theory, skip the $50 hostel and instead split the cost of a $100 hotel room. The site also labels itself as a way to help 'meet new friends' and 'build your network.'

Would you share a hotel room with someone you didn't know to save money?

Easynest, a new website, is a way for people traveling alone to connect and sleep in the same room so they can find more luxurious or convenient hotels that still fit their budgets.

The site is based on the idea that most hotels charge a flat rate on rooms whether there are one or two guests. So thrifty solo travelers can, in theory, skip the $50 hostel and instead split the cost of a $100 hotel room.

The service is certainly straightforward and simple to use. People who plan on taking a trip on their own create profiles on the free site. Then, they either list a hotel room, becoming a "host"; or search for a listing in a specific location, becoming a "guest". Hosts build up their profile placements by responding to potential guests in a timely matter.

Easynest also labels itself as a way to help you "meet new friends, build your network [and] create new opportunities."

It sounds like a good idea, but as HotelChatter pointed out, the website itself doesn't have a payment system. The host makes the reservations, and Easynest suggests a guest wait wait until arriving to pay the host.

Unlike Airbnb, which provides a secure payment platform and promises to reimburse hosts up to $1 million for property damage, Easynest doesn't appear to have any accountability policies in place, HotelChatter cautions. And while users can see the social media profiles of users they correspond with, there isn't currently a place for reviews or feedback to help people make informed decisions before they decide to share a room with someone.

The room-sharing program launched in May.
